Graphics Card Repair for Desktop Computers

A game crashes mid-match, the screen starts breaking up into little squares or green dots, and sometimes the computer gives no picture at all — as if there’s no monitor. The graphics card is one of the parts that suffers the most from overheating and dust, so failures are more common than people think. You don’t have to buy a new one before we check whether the one you already have is worth repairing.

Most common symptoms / when you need this

  • Artifacts on the screen — squares, patterns, flickering, strange colors, or dots that show up in games or on the desktop
  • The computer runs, the fans spin, but there’s no picture on the monitor
  • Black screen after a few minutes of use, or as soon as you put a load on the card (gaming, rendering, video editing)
  • Blue screen (BSOD) with errors related to the video driver
  • The graphics card’s fan screams at full speed, the card overheats and shuts the computer down
  • The picture works only on the integrated graphics, and as soon as you plug in the dedicated card — nothing
  • The system doesn’t recognize the card (Code 43, “device not detected”)

What exactly we do

First we determine whether the problem really is the graphics card and not the driver, the power supply, or the motherboard — half of “dead” cards aren’t actually the card’s fault. Once we confirm it’s the GPU, we do the following:

  • Thorough cleaning and cooling service — removing dust, replacing the thermal paste and thermal pads, cleaning the heatsink. The most common cause of artifacts and shutdowns is simply overheating.
  • Fan servicing and replacement on the card when it rattles, sticks, or has stopped
  • GPU chip reballing — when the solder balls under the chip “crack” from constant heating and cooling. We remove the chip, clean off the old solder beads, and lay down new ones with a controlled profile. This is a genuine option for cards where the chip has “let go” of contact, but it’s not a magic wand — we’ll tell you honestly whether it makes sense before we start.
  • Replacing damaged components on the card’s board (VRM, capacitors) where that’s feasible
  • Checking the power supply and connectors — often the culprit is a weak or faulty PSU, not the card

How it works

Diagnostics are free if no disassembly is needed. If it comes down to reballing or a deeper job that requires opening the card and removing the cooler, diagnostics are charged, but we tell you that upfront — no surprises.

There are two ways to get your computer to us. You can bring it in to one of our locations — Arena, Piramida, or Centar near the Botanical Garden. If lugging a heavy tower doesn’t suit you, send it by courier — the courier picks the device up at your place and brings it back once it’s done. For desktop computers that’s usually the easiest option, since the couriers carry the case for you and you don’t have to haul anything.

Prices depend on the specific fault and the type of card, so we don’t quote them off the top of our head — it’s all in the price list. After diagnostics you get an exact estimate, and only then do you decide whether we go ahead.

Why choose us

We’ve been repairing computers in Belgrade for many years, and graphics cards are our everyday work — from old GeForce/Radeon boards to the newer generations. We have the equipment for reballing and testing that many shops don’t, so we fix even the failures others immediately write off with “buy a new one.” We back every repair with a warranty, and if we conclude that a repair doesn’t make sense or would cost more than the card is worth — we’ll tell you straight, so you don’t throw money away.

If you also need a broader check of the whole computer, take a look at our desktop repair, and for portable machines we have laptop repair.

Frequently asked questions

Is reballing a graphics card worth it?

It depends on the card. For a more powerful, more expensive card, reballing is almost always more worthwhile than buying a new one. For a cheaper, older board it sometimes doesn’t make sense, and we’ll tell you that after diagnostics — you make the call, with accurate information in hand.

Artifacts only show up in games, everything’s fine on the desktop — is it the card?

Very likely yes, because the problem only appears under load and heat. That’s a classic sign of overheating or cracked solder. Bring it in for a check before the card gives out completely.

How long does the repair take?

Cleaning, paste, and a fan replacement go quickly, most often the same day or the next. Reballing and deeper jobs take longer, since there’s curing and testing under load involved. You get an exact timeframe along with the estimate, and you can track the status through status check.
