Desktop Computer Upgrades
Your desktop still serves you well; it has just gotten slow over the years — long boot times, games that stutter, video editing that takes forever, and buying a new one feels like a pointless expense when you already have the case. The great thing about a desktop is that almost everything inside it can be replaced and beefed up. Instead of tossing out a machine that still works, we upgrade exactly what’s holding you back, so you get a noticeably faster computer for a fraction of the cost of a new one.
Most common symptoms / when you need this
- The computer takes a long time to power on and „wake up” before it reaches the desktop
- Games that used to run fine now stutter or crash even on low settings
- Video editing, Photoshop, AutoCAD, or several open programs at once bring the system to its knees
- The fans run loud non-stop, the case is hot, and the computer is still slow
- You’re running out of disk space or the old hard drive has started to „click”
- You want to keep it going for a few more years instead of buying a whole new setup
- You’re ready for a newer Windows or a newer game, but the machine doesn’t meet the requirements
What exactly we do
First we figure out where the real bottleneck is, because there’s no point in replacing everything. On one computer, adding an SSD and RAM is enough to make it run like new; on another, the motherboard is an old generation, so a bigger leap calls for a new CPU and board together. We tell you honestly what’s worth upgrading and what would just be throwing money at an outdated base.
In practice, the things we do most often are: switching from a mechanical drive to an SSD (the biggest speed boost for the least money), adding or replacing RAM to handle more open programs, installing a stronger graphics card for gaming and video editing, replacing the CPU when the motherboard supports it, a stronger power supply when a new graphics card draws more power, and a thorough cleaning and fresh thermal paste, because an overheating computer throttles no matter what components it has. If needed, we also replace the fans or add better cooling. We verify that all the components are compatible with each other before we order anything — the wrong RAM, or a graphics card that won’t fit the case, are classic mistakes we steer clear of.
How it works
Diagnostics are free if no disassembly is required — just tell us what’s bothering you and what you use the computer for, and we’ll suggest what makes sense to upgrade. A desktop case is bulky and heavy, so you don’t have to haul it around yourself: a courier picks up the unit and returns it upgraded. If it’s more convenient, drop it off at one of our stores — we have three in Belgrade: near Arena, in New Belgrade by Piramida, and downtown by the Botanička bašta (Botanical Garden).
After the assessment you get exactly what’s needed, how long it takes, and how much it costs — the price is in the price list, with no surprises down the line. We don’t touch anything until we’ve agreed on the price. You can track the upgrade status online through the status check, no calling and waiting.
Why choose us
We build and upgrade desktops every day, from older office machines to gaming rigs, so we know where the pitfalls are with which boards and cases. We don’t sell you an upgrade you don’t need — if we see it makes more sense to build a new configuration than to patch up the old one, we’ll tell you straight. You get a warranty on the installed components and on the work itself, and the components also carry the manufacturer’s factory warranty. Your data stays untouched: when moving to an SSD we clone the system one-to-one, nothing gets deleted. If you need a complete checkup of the machine, there’s also desktop repair, and for portable machines take a look at laptop repair.
Frequently asked questions
Is it even worth upgrading my computer, or should I buy a new one?
It depends on the foundation. If the motherboard and CPU are relatively recent, upgrading the SSD, RAM, and possibly the graphics card brings the machine back to life cheaply and quickly. If the platform is many generations old, it’s sometimes smarter to invest in a new configuration. After a free assessment, we’ll tell you honestly what’s worth it, with no hard sell.
Which single upgrade speeds up a computer the most?
Almost always switching from a mechanical drive to an SSD. It’s the biggest speed boost for the least money — the computer powers on in a couple of seconds and programs open instantly. On top of that, adding RAM fixes the slowdowns when you have lots of things open at once.
Can I put a stronger graphics card in my existing computer?
Often yes, but three things need checking: whether the graphics card physically fits in the case, whether the power supply has enough wattage and the right connector, and whether the CPU won’t hold it back. We look at all of that up front and recommend a graphics card that makes sense for your specific machine and for what you use it for.
